Overview

A side-panel extension that opens alongside instagram.com. It spots the public Reel in your active tab, pulls its media and details in one click, and publishes it to the channel you choose as a YouTube Short.

Key features

  • Background batch queueLine up several Reels and they upload one by one, even with the panel closed.

  • One-click YouTube sign-in through Google’s own consent screen, for personal or brand channels.

  • Multiple connected channels with a default and per-upload switching.

  • Full upload detailsTitle, description, visibility, audience, synthetic-media flags and saved default tags.

  • Local upload history that flags already-posted Reels, filterable by channel and date.

Challenges

  1. 01

Detecting the current Reel reliably across Instagram’s SPA navigation.

  2. 02

Running queued uploads in the background with fresh media fetched at upload time and automatic retries.

  3. 03

Handling Google OAuth for multiple channels with minimal scopes (youtube.upload, youtube.readonly).

  4. 04

    Keeping everything client-side

Tokens and channel data never leave the browser except to Google.

Objectives

  1. 01

Reel to Short in three steps

    Connect, fetch, post.

  2. 02

Full control over metadata before anything is published.

  3. 03

Batch cross-posting that doesn’t tie up the browser.

  4. 04

Privacy by design with no backend server.

Outcome

  • A focused side-panel workflow from sign-in to upload.

  • Background batch uploads with notifications and retries.

  • Multi-channel publishing with a sensible default.

  • Duplicate protection backed by a filterable upload history.
